A Design Studio Built Around the Lake

Bench & Field Architecture, of AWHA Design Group

Meet Andrew Hankermeyer, Principal Architect

Andrew Hankermeyer is the Principal Architect of Bench & Field Architecture, a registered, licensed architect holding active licensure in both Maine and New Jersey. Founded in 2023, the studio is currently the only architecture practice based within a 50-mile radius of Belgrade Lakes, giving homeowners direct access to a principal architect from initial concept through final design.

A Local Studio for Lakefront Living

Bench & Field Architecture focuses on what the studio knows best: custom homes for Maine’s lakes region. As the residential design practice of AWHA Design Group, Bench & Field brings a larger studio’s design discipline to a smaller, hands-on practice built specifically around lake living.

Our Approach to Design

Every project starts with the land, the client’s goals, and the practical realities of Maine’s building codes and shoreland regulations — resulting in homes that are as functional and code-compliant as they are considered.

What Makes Bench & Field Architecture Different?

Bench & Field Architecture is currently the only architecture firm based within 50 miles of Belgrade Lakes, Maine, giving homeowners direct access to a licensed architect without the wait times or hand-offs common at larger regional firms.
